A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was killed on Monday after a trailer reportedly rammed into several vehicles around Agodi Gardens in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Several other people sustained varying degrees of injuries in the multiple-vehicle crash.
Eyewitnesses said the articulated vehicle had allegedly hit several vehicles around the Sango area before proceeding towards Agodi Gardens, where it struck a motorcycle conveying the corps member, killing the victim on the spot.
One eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the truck had been involved in multiple collisions before the fatal incident.
“The articulated vehicle had been involved in multiple collisions around Sango before this fatal incident occurred. The truck driver had reportedly hit several vehicles around Sango before proceeding towards Agodi,” the source said.
Another eyewitness said the crash turned fatal when the trailer collided with the motorcycle carrying the corps member near Agodi Gardens.
“The truck eventually hit the motorcycle, killing the NYSC corps member, while several other people sustained injuries,” the eyewitness said.
The sources further alleged that the driver had attempted to flee after the earlier collisions before the fatal crash occurred.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were seen at the scene when our correspondent visited the area.
The injured victims were reportedly rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the deceased corps member had not been disclosed, while there was no official confirmation of the truck driver's arrest.
