A massive security operation swept through Benin City on Thursday as authorities moved to lock down Edo State ahead of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Leading from the front, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, staged a high-visibility “show of force,” signaling zero tolerance for threats to public safety. The operation comes as more than 5,000 police personnel have been deployed across the State to guarantee a peaceful holiday.
Backed by a joint security front—including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—the convoy of armed personnel and patrol vehicles rolled through major roads and flashpoints in the city, drawing attention and reassurance in equal measure.
Authorities say the exercise is not just for optics. It is a calculated move to deter criminal activity and reinforce confidence among residents before, during, and after the festivities.
The message from security agencies was clear: Edo is on alert, and there will be no room for disruption as Muslims across the state mark Eid-el-Fitr.
