The Senate of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has formally sanctioned 76 undergraduate students for involvement in various forms of examination malpractice during the 2024/2025 academic session.
The punitive measures were adopted at the university’s 102nd regular Senate meeting after careful consideration of findings from the institution’s Examination Misconduct Committee.
According to a statement released by the university’s Acting Public Relations Officer, the offenses included the possession of unauthorised materials and mobile phones in examination halls, impersonation, and writing answers on parts of the body  all violations of PLASU’s Examination Regulations as set out in its Students’ Handbook.
The Senate approved a range of sanctions tailored to the severity of each offence, including:
Rustication (temporary suspension) for one academic session,
Compulsory carryover of implicated courses, and
Outright expulsion for the most serious cases.
The disciplinary action forms part of the university’s ongoing efforts to uphold strict standards of academic integrity and discipline, with leadership reaffirming a zero‑tolerance stance on examination misconduct.
PLASU officials also noted that alongside the sanctions, the Senate ratified final results for undergraduate and postgraduate students for the 2024/2025 academic year, and highlighted that lectures for the new semester had already resumed across departments ahead of schedule.
The move places PLASU in step with other Nigerian tertiary institutions increasingly enforcing stricter penalties for examination offences in a bid to preserve the credibility of academic qualifications nationwide.
