The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed to resign his position if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election in the FCT and Rivers State.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, while addressing members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja, insisting that his political relevance and continued stay in office depend on his ability to deliver electoral support for the President in both territories.

The former Rivers State governor said he would not consider himself qualified to remain FCT Minister if Tinubu failed to secure victory in the nation’s capital, where he currently serves, and Rivers State, his primary political stronghold.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here. If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike declared.

The minister also reaffirmed his support for the Rainbow coalition, insisting that the political alliance was focused on securing victory for Tinubu and its preferred candidates in the 2027 general elections.

“Let us be clear on direction. For the Presidency, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu!” he said.

Wike also endorsed Philip Aduda for the Senate, describing him as a man of the people, while criticising politicians he accused of limiting their engagement with constituents to television appearances.

He further disclosed that the coalition was backing two House of Representatives candidates who are former area council chairmen.

According to the minister, the alliance has adopted a unified political strategy across party lines in the FCT to mobilise support for its candidates.

“In the FCT, we are running a unified coalition across parties to deliver results,” he said.

Wike insisted that the coalition had reached a firm agreement on its political direction, describing the gathering as the final affirmation of its commitment ahead of the 2027 elections.
