The Nigerian Senate has appointed Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo as Chairman of its powerful Public Accounts Committee, following the exit of Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.

Wadada’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress triggered the leadership change, as the committee’s chairmanship is constitutionally reserved for a member of the opposition.

Dankwambo, a former Governor of Gombe State with a strong pedigree in public finance management, is now tasked with deepening legislative scrutiny of government expenditure and enforcing accountability across federal institutions.

In a statement issued on April 29, 2026, his Media Aide, Hussaini Ali Muhammed, described the appointment as both timely and well-deserved, expressing confidence that the senator will оправе the trust placed in him through diligent oversight and transparent leadership.
