Former presidential candidate and ex-Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, on Saturday joined voters in his hometown, Agulu, to cast his vote in the ongoing Anambra governorship election.

Obi, who arrived at Polling Unit 19, Agulu 2 in Anaocha Local Government Area, drew a large crowd of supporters, journalists, and election observers as he queued to perform his civic duty.

The Labour Party leader’s presence generated excitement among residents and voters, with many chanting his name and taking photographs as he emerged from the polling booth.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has intensified aerial surveillance and ground patrols across the state to ensure a peaceful voting process. Security personnel were seen stationed at strategic locations as part of a broader effort to maintain order during the election, which is taking place across 5,718 polling units.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported a smooth start to voting in most areas, with high voter turnout recorded in parts of Anambra Central and South senatorial zones.

Saturday’s election is seen as a crucial test for Anambra’s political future, with observers noting the high stakes and strong interest from key political figures across Nigeria.
