President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Katsina State to personally receive the remains of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died recently in a London hospital at the age of 82.
The President’s arrival at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina marks a solemn milestone in the state burial arrangements for Buhari, whose final rites are scheduled to take place in his hometown of Daura.
He was warmly received by Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, alongside other high-ranking government officials and political leaders.
Also present to receive the President were the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. Several state governors were in attendance, underscoring the national significance of the occasion.
Among the governors present were AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), and Bassey Edet Otu (Cross River).
From the host state, Katsina, the Deputy Governor, Faruk Lawal Jobe, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, and Presidential Aide, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Masari, also formed part of the official welcoming delegation.
As the nation mourns, preparations are in full swing to accord the former president a dignified and befitting farewell in Daura. The late General Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, is being remembered for his role in shaping the country’s modern political landscape.
Security has been heightened across key locations in Katsina and Daura ahead of the state funeral, expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.
