Six members of a deadly cult group, Aiye Confraternity, that have over time held Bariga axis of Lagos State spellbound, have been arrested.
The arrest of the six notorious gangsters, all in their 20s, followed what the police termed a successfully "sustained monitoring", after the gruesome murder of one "Fashola" at Pedro area last week Sunday, November 3, 2019, for which the police placed members of the the cult group on its list of wanted people.
The said "sustained monitoring" by operatives of a crack team, codenamed "Operation Crush" led to the tracking of the duo of 28-years-old Fatai Nofui (aka Itape) and Qudus Kazeem at Ebute-Bariga , both residents of the area.
While Fatai lives at House No. 12, Ago Owu Street, Qudus is of No. 14, Tape Street.
The arrest of Fatai and Qudus, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana, in a press statement, led to further apprehension of four others namely; Muiyis Saraki, 23, (aka Bosingwa); Lucky Sunday, 27, David Okpa, 29, (aka Na God) and Taye Balogun, 24, (aka Gbalagbala).
Recovered from the suspected cultists were an Axe, and three handsets, comprising a HTC, one Nokia, and one Itel. The Itel phone, police investigation revealed, was snatched from one Amusa Bukola (f) of No. 34, Odundi Street, Bariga.
Elkana stated that the first two suspects were arrested at Ebute-Bariga on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at about 20:15hours, adding that their arrowhead is one Mohammed (aka Obama).
He said: "The gang is responsible for series of violent attacks, armed robbery and murder in Bariga and environ", adding that whilst investigation was ongoing, he said on completion of investigation, they would be charged to court.
