Nigerian woman steals her friend's 4-month-old baby

A Lagos based woman has been arrested by the Police for allegedly stealing a baby to impress her husband.

The suspect, Falilat Olatunji, in committing the crime, left her House 23, Jawando Street, Ayobo , Lagos residence for Abeokuta in Ogun State and stealthily went into her friend's room at Iyana Kajola in Mile 2 area and stole a four-month old baby boy.



The Ogun State Command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement hinted that one Taiwo Bello, the baby's mother, left the sleeping tot, Ibrahim Bello, in the room while she went to the back of the house to wash some clothings. She got back to the room and became stunned at the sudden disappearance of the baby and raised an alarm.

According to Oyeyemi, the complaint was lodged at the Sabo-Ilupeju Police Division in Abeokuta by a concerned neighbour, one Alhaji Abdul-Akeem Dawodu.

"Upon the report, the DPO, CSP Alhasan AbdulAzeez, mobilized his detectives to the scene and commenced a full scale investigation into the case. Their efforts yielded positive result when the suspect was sighted at Ilewo-Orile with the baby and was promptly arrested on Wednesday, October 30, 2019", the PPRO stated.

The police image maker further said: "On interrogation, the suspect, who resides at No. 23, Jawando Street, Ayobo, Lagos, confessed stealing the baby but claimed that she only wanted to use the baby to deceive her husband, whom she had earlier informed that she got pregnant for, as the product of the pregnancy", adding that the little Ibrahim had been handed over to his parents.

On the instruction of the State Police Commissioner, Bashir Makama, the suspect has been ordered to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution, while appealing to  members of the public to always be wary of people around them, saying "there are a lot of wolves in human skin".
