FG warns NPower volunteers against truancy

The Federal Government has described absenteeism as a major concern and challenge to the success of its National  Social Investment programme, the N-Power, absenteeism on the part of the beneficiaries will make it appear like the initiative has been  ineffective sort of.    Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Job creation, Mr. Muhammed Brimah  stated this at a  programme held in Ilorin, Kwara state  by an Islamic group  ‘The Companion’  , which had as its theme ‘Unemployment and National Insecurity’.

Brimah noted that the N-Power programme  is not meant to  create permanent job of thirty thousand naira monthly salary for the beneficiaries but rather  to train them on employability skills and how they can as well be Independent and employers of labour after they must have undergone training programme  for  two years.  Many of the beneficiaries have however according to him not attached the needed seriousness to the programme and do fail to report at their place of training and instead prefer to share the stipends with those in charge of the organizations.


While appealing to the beneficiaries to attach seriousness to the programme by being punctual at their place of training and always making use of devices given to them for knowledge enhancement noted that, the programme   is not a permanent job . 

In his welcome speech, the National Amir of the association, Alhaji Thabit Adewale Sonaike, said the association as part of the activities for its biennial elective national conference decided to talked about unemployment having identified it as the root causes of the social vices the country is facing presently and that it requires collective responsibility of the parents and the government. ‘Without doubt, Unemployment and insecurity are two of the major problems facing our country today to the extent that President Muhammadu Buhari, used them as major campaign issues ahead of the last two general elections.

Unfortunately  the crisis of unemployment in  Nigeria has assumed a frightening dimension bedeviling the lives of Nigerians, especially the youth, causing increased militancy, violent crimes, kidnapping and other insecurity one could think of” he said.

The Guest Lecturer, Dr. Bashir Kurfi, called on government at all levels  to be more creative in initiating policies and programmes that can lead to creation of employment opportunities for the teeming youth across the country  noting that  idleness is responsible for the worsening security situation in the country .

Dr. Bashir, also asked wealthy individuals, most especially those that have amassed wealth as political office holders   to always invest in Nigeria by establishing  companies that can create employment opportunities for the youths like it was obtained in the past when the likes of Lever brothers, Leventis, Bhojson, and many more would attend graduation ceremonies of high institutions to recruit fresh graduates   and pick the eggheads as staff.

In his contributions, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mallam Yusuf Ola-Olu Alli challenged  government at all level to ensure they come out clear and visionary in respect of programmes  aimed at  eradicating poverty as  ambiguity in policy language, ideas and programmes can according to him  cause more problems rath
