Kebbi State Deploys Dental Hygienists to Schools

The Kebbi State Government is to deploy dental hygienists to primary and secondary schools to induct pupils and students on proper dental care.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu made this announcement in Birnin Kebbi at a dinner party in honour of the medical team, which perform another round of medical outreach at the State Medical Centre, Kalgo.

The Governor was responding to the request by the team leader from Moses Lake United States who informed him that there was the necessity to improve dental health care among children by sending hygienist to schools to teach pupils proper way of maintaining their teeth.

Senator Atiku Bagudu also consented to the advice by the medical team to check the problem of malnutrition among children in the state.

He gave an assurance that, nutritional challenge facing some communities would be tackle decisively by his administration in furtherance of effect to uplifting the health of the people.

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu commended the medical team for performing excellently and efficiently during the outreach, which he described as a major landmark of his administration, whether he was in power or not.


He use the occasion on behalf of the people and the government of Kebbi state to forward profound gratitude to the medical experts from Moses Lake, University College Hospital, Ibadan, Port Harcourt University, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto  and home base doctors for their sacrifice to serve humanity through the outreach programme.


Senator Atiku Bagudu was also full of praises for his wife Dr. Zainab Atiku Bagudu for her efforts and enthusiasm in improving the wellbeing and health condition of the people of the state.

The Governor requested the Federal Government to incorporate hypertension into the primary health-care policy of the country in view of privilace of hypertension among the citizenry.

In a welcome address the Commissioner for Health Alhaji Umar Usman Kambaza expressed appreciation to Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for placing premium on developing the health sector to ensure quality healthcare in the state, which culminated to hosting the medical outreach for the fifth time at the state Medical Centre, Kalgo.


The Commissioner on behalf of the Ministry of Health expressed similar appreciation to the team from Moses Lake, Chile, and their Nigerian counterpart including doctors from Kebbi state for their sacrifice to offer free medical services to patients from all over Nigeria during the medical out reach.

The leader of the team from Moses Lake United States DR. Lateef Olaniya would want the state government to check the challenge of dental healthcare and malnutrition among children which have been observed by doctors in the course of the outreach.

Dr. Lateef Olaniya commends Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for his support to health care, saying Nigeria could have achieve her target objectives if leaders have the same commitment to improving the health sector.

He announced that about forty thousand patient were seen by doctors during the outreach among whom some underwent surgery, consultation, laboratory investigation, eye care, while others received prescription and free drugs.

Sharing their experiences Dr. Micky Eddie, Dr. Pamelu Harrold, Dr. Dolapo Afuwape and Dr. Richard Omoyeni thanked Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for given then the privilege to serve humanity but suggested that, the period of the outreach should be extended to three weeks to enable more people to benefit from the free programme.

They acknowledged the quality of Senator Atiku Bagudu for his humility and passion for uplifting healthcare delivery system in the state, which they described as worthy of emulation by others.

The speakers singled out one of the home base doctor Dr. Aminu Haliru Bunza for exhibiting professionalism, commitment and dedication towards the success of the outreach programme.

In a similar fashion, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu commended the Commissioner for Health, Umar Usman Kambaza, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Hajiya Halima Boyi Dikko and Chief Medical Director Kebbi State Medical Centre, Dr. Abubakar Garba Koko and other staff of the Ministry for working tirelessly to ensuring the outreach prorgamme was beneficial to the people in line with the target objective.
