The Edo State Government has urged Christian faithful, religious leaders and other residents to join a 14-day fasting and prayer programme as the state prepares for the 2026 ember months.
The exercise is scheduled to begin on September 1 and end on September 14, with fasting observed daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The call was made by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters and Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Apostle (Dr.) Sule Faraday Azekhumen, in a special announcement issued in Benin City.
According to Azekhumen, the programme is designed to bring residents together in prayer for the protection, peace and continued progress of Edo State.

He also called on participants to pray for divine wisdom and direction for Governor Monday Okpebholo, members of his administration and the people of the state.
The prayer exercise will be guided by selected Bible passages, including Psalm 35:13, Matthew 17:21 and Esther 4:16.
The government said the programme would provide an avenue for collective prayers for peace, security, good governance and divine guidance across the state.
Azekhumen encouraged residents who are physically fit to observe sectional dry fasting, while advising others to participate according to their individual strength and capacity.
He emphasised the importance of unity and collective intercession, saying that sustained prayers could contribute to the peace, safety and development of Edo State.
He concluded with the declaration that “Edo State is in God’s hands.”
