The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of all suspects linked to the viral bullying incident at Igbinedion Education Center, disclosing that those involved are being charged to the Family Court in line with juvenile justice laws.

In an official update issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, authorities said investigations revealed a chain of violent reprisals triggered by a dispute among students earlier this month.

Preliminary findings show that the incident began on March 5, 2026, when two 14-year-old female students allegedly attacked a schoolmate following a verbal altercation in which offensive remarks were made about their late father.

The situation escalated after school hours when the girls reportedly assaulted the student and turned on his mother—who had intervened—physically confronting her and tearing her clothes. The school management subsequently expelled the students for gross misconduct.

However, tensions worsened the following day as the assaulted woman’s son allegedly carried out a revenge attack on the brother of the girls. The incident, captured on video by another student, later went viral, sparking widespread outrage.

In response, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate intensification of the Operation Safe Schools Initiative across secondary schools in the state. The Command also activated its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) to drive sensitisation and behavioural reorientation among students and school authorities.

Police urged parents and guardians to strengthen supervision and moral guidance, while advising students to channel grievances through lawful means.

The Command assured residents that justice will be served and proactive measures are underway to prevent a recurrence, stressing its commitment to safeguarding children and maintaining law and order across Edo State.
