The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dauda Lawal’s home state has concluded arrangements to formally welcome the governor into the ruling party following his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to a statement issued in Gusau by the State APC Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris, the reception event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2026, and will be attended by the party’s national leadership.
President Bola Tinubu will be represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside APC governors, National Assembly members, and other senior party figures from within and outside Zamfara State.
The statement said various committees have been established to ensure a smooth and successful reception for the governor, as party stakeholders mobilise support across the state.
Governor Lawal’s defection increases the momentum of political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, reinforcing the APC’s influence in North-West Nigeria.
Supporters and party leaders have welcomed the move as a boost to the ruling party’s prospects both locally and nationally.
