Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate redeployment of security operatives who were on duty at the Government House on Friday following the controversial lockout of hundreds of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters, market women, and youths during the celebration of the Supreme Court judgement.

The governor, who expressed displeasure over the incident, also directed the constitution of an investigative panel to identify those responsible for the act, which he described as “unacceptable and inconsistent” with his administration’s values.

According to reports, security personnel at the Government House gates denied entry to scores of people invited to the post-judgement thanksgiving celebration, claiming they were acting on “orders from above.” Only Very Important Personalities (VIPs) were allegedly allowed inside to partake in the festivities.

Reacting swiftly, Governor Okpebholo said the action did not emanate from him and warned that his government would not condone any form of elitism or disrespect to party loyalists and the general public.

“This decision did not originate from me, nor does it reflect my values. I will never knowingly authorise any action that disrespects our supporters or members of the press,” he said in a statement issued Saturday morning.

“I remain a people-focused and accessible leader. The exclusion of invited guests and supporters from the Government House was not only unauthorised but entirely contrary to the spirit of celebration that the Supreme Court judgement represented.”

The affected officers include the Camp Commandant and others who were deployed at the Government House during the event.

Governor Okpebholo assured that anyone found culpable after the probe would face disciplinary action, adding that his administration prioritises openness, unity, and respect for all stakeholders.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding Edo State on the foundation of trust, inclusion and transparency, noting that those who stood by him in the struggle for justice must never be alienated or ridiculed.
