In what appears to be yet another significant setback for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi-Ajagunla, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has formally resigned his membership of the party.

Fadeyi-Ajagunla’s resignation, dated 12 June 2025, was contained in a letter personally addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 3, Oke-Ejigbo, Ila-Orangun. The senator cited irreconcilable differences, deep-rooted internal divisions, and persistent legal battles within the PDP as reasons for his exit.

“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” the letter read. “Irreconcilable difference and irreparable division that have emerged and court cases and counter court cases in the last 3 years which has created faction in the party at the national level.”

He added that the decision was reached after extensive consultations with his political allies, family members, and close associates.

This development comes barely days after the resignation of another Osun lawmaker, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, who also walked away from the PDP, citing similar internal strife and leadership crises.

The twin resignations of both senators have cast a shadow over the stability of the PDP in Osun, with political observers warning that the party risks further haemorrhaging of members ahead of key political contests.

Neither Fadeyi-Ajagunla nor his aides have confirmed his next political move, but speculation is rife that he may be on his way to joining a rival party in the coming weeks.
