Hell was let loose today, August 18, 2020, in the residence of former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Zanfara State, Alhaji Mohammad Bello Dankande Gamji, where gunmen paid an unwanted visit and kidnapped four persons, including two of the victim's children.
Also kidnapped was an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on guard duty in the Commissioner's Gamji home town in Bakura Local Government Council Area of the state, as well as one other person.
One person was shot dead in the attack, just as a woman was injured.
Confirming the ugly incident in a press release, the Command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed shehu said that the Command, at about 0500hrs, received a report that, "At about 0430hrs, a large number of armed men invaded the house and kidnapped two of the Commissioner's children and two others, including the NSCDC operative. One person was shot dead while a woman wounded in the process".
According to the release, the Command has already deployed armed and plain-clothed operatives who have immediately embarked on search and rescue operations with a view to rescuing the kidnapped victims and apprehend the assailants.
The Command has further assured the former Commissioner and the entire state that, it was doing everything possible to get the abductees released back home "as was done recently, where six (6) kidnapped victims, including two (2) district heads of Basasa and Ruwan Gizo in Talata Mafara and Bakura LGAs, were rescued safely by the Police".
The Command appealed to members of the public to avoid senseless confrontations with gunmen during such invasion but resort to timely reporting to the police or any security agency nearest to them for prompt action.
The police image maker, however, said that normalcy has been restored to the area, adding that updates on the incident would be made known to the public.
