Edo council boss to Councillors: I am not responsible for your suspension

The Chairman, Etsako Central Local Government, Edo State Mr. John Osi Akhigbe has debunked the rumours currently making the rounds that he is responsible for the suspension of four Councillors in the Council urging the good people of Etsako Central LG to disregard it as his concern is on the welfare of the people. He added that anyone who cares to know the truth about what warranted the suspension of the Councillors should forward an enquiry to the majority Leader of the Council.

This was contained in a Press Statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Umoru and made available to Strategic Media NG.

In the words of Umoru: "The attention of the Council Chairman of Etsako Central Local Government, Comrade John Osi Akhigbe has been drawn to the rumour that he is responsible for the suspension of the four (4) Councillors in Etsako Central Local Government Area.

"This rumour should be disregarded in its entirety as it is lacking of substance and all sense of logical reasoning given the fact that the Local Government operates in three arms of which Comrade Akhigbe is the head of the Executive in Etsako Central Local Government Area. So how can Legislative business have a concern with the Executive?

Comrade Akhigbe is a goal-oriented council boss who has made Etsako Central the best and most recognized Local Government in Nigeria in terms of Developmental projects and improvement of human infrastructure. 

"He is achieving this by strict adherence to the principle of separation of powers where all arms of government are allowed their constitutional rights to function independently while acting as a check and balance on the excesses of other arms. The Council Boss always has the interest of his people at heart and follows the principle of the rule of law as well separation of power. Therefore, he does not interfere with legislative issues nor will he mastermind the woes or suspension of any Councillor.

"Councillors woes and in this case, suspension arises from resolutions reached by the legislative arm of the Council on erring members and does not in any way involves the Executive Chairman. So, who so ever is interested in knowing the rationale for the suspension of the Councillors should channel his/her enquiry to the Majority leader of the Council, Etsako Central Local Government." He further said.
