A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state, Prince Kelly O. Udebhulu from Urohi Kingdom in Esan west local government of Edo state has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the crisis rocking the party in the state as the numbers of fallouts arising from the crisis are enormous and would double greatly if not settled peacefully now and Edo guber election 2020 would be a nightmare for APC in Edo state. He appeals to APC members in Edo state to show understanding and be loyal to the party that would make the party stronger and stronger.
“As for me, I appeal that there should be peace and every effort should be made to establish peace such that we will approach the Edo guber election as a united force, a united voice, a united party, rallying around a united and acceptable candidate that would easily win the election.
"The popular slogans now that 'we will give Ambode treatment to Obaseki' and 'my second term bid nor negotiable' from same APC's family members not from opposition parties members calls for serious concern. Where are we heading towards now if not show of strength and power that often emerged from ego and pride." Udebhulu revealed.
"In a situation when hell freezes in Edo APC as the two camps in Edo APC attack each other publicly without limitations and given the dominance of secret patronage networks across the state for the 2020 guber election, it is obviously clear that the internal crisis has come to dominate the smooth running of the government in Edo state and it has submerged into selfish interests and no longer ideological fights.
"As it is today, the Edo guber election 2020 APC's primaries would be anchored upon individual's chronicles in the past instead of campaigns anchor upon continuity of the present administration and would be influenced by cash instead of ideology as threats of more aspirants at the party primaries emerged from other opposing camp which naturally would have been a smooth party primaries for APC.
"Street wisdom explains this plutocratic internal crisis in Edo APC as 'crisis of the greedy, by the greedy, for the greedy' and sooner than expected, political kingpins, leaders from the two camps would begin to change loyalty from one camp to another according to where the money is". Udebhulu lamented.
Prince Kelly Udebhulu reveals that whoever emerges from APC primaries has a serious fight ahead from the oppositions especially the PDP in the state that is recording all the revealed weaknesses of APC by the feuding camps of APC. The APC candidate's prospects for success at the 2020 guber election depends on his or her ability to build 'destroyed bridges', manage the severe anticipated crisis and opposition's attacks.
"My fellow APC members in Edo state, what we require is peace. I pray God give us the wisdom that is required to work out the settlement to bring the party back to a strong political party with strong fighting force that would defeat every opposition especially the underdog which is PDP in the state ” He concluded.
