Gunmen invade Rivers village kill 2

Aleast two persons were reportedly killed in the early hours of today as gunmen attacked some villages in Oyigbo local government area of Rivers state.

A redident of the area told this blog that: “bandits from Lore in Ogoni invaded Azuogu Ndoki, Mbgu Azuogu Ndoki, Marihu Ndoki, Okpontu Ndoki and Obete Ndoki.”

The source alleged that “one Mr Okechukwu Edward and Mr Ndidi Okerenta while several persons are still missing.” He said several properties were destroyed and residents of the affected communities have been displaced.

As at the time of press, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni is yet to respond to our message for police confirmation of the story.

We gathered that a similar incident had happened in Afam Ukwu Ndoki, Afam Nta Ndoki recently and in 1993 when gunmen from some Ogoni communities invaded Okoloma Communities in Oyigbo LGA and chased resident out until the intervention of the then military government restored order.


Reports of cult wars, communal crisis and other violent crimes have taken a steep rise in the oil rich state since the beginning of 2014, spreading generously over a wide geographic area.
