A mild drama ensued at the initiation/induction ritual of Imo State University Theatre Arts freshers department earlier this week.
Strategic Media NG learnt that the IMSU Chapter of the Joint Christian Campus Fellowship (JCCF) led by its president Pst. Ernest Ugonna Ezekwere and his christian stalwarts in company of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics Prof. Pst. Nkwam Uwaoma attempted to halt the freshers induction procession which didn't yield much success.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics has promised that such a ritual will not repeat itself in IMSU again.
Over the years, the annual freshers initiation/induction ceremony has continued to generate mixed reactions but its administrators maintained it is the department's way of welcoming the fresh students into the department.
Stressing that there isn't any spirituality or fetishism attached rather a way of promoting our indigenous culture.
On the other hand, christian fanatics have continued to call for the ceremony's abolishment maintaining that it has spiritual implications that are detrimental and against the christian faith.
