The Ogun State Police command has arrested two suspects, who wanted to play smart, using the name of Governor-elect of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians.

Hassan Jimoh and Taiwo Edun, had cleverly set up a task force, known as “Keep Ogun State Clean Corps”, and advertised same as “Dapo Abiodun Environmental Task Force”.

Their mission, it was athered, was intended to lure unemployed youths into believing the that the program was midwifed by the Governor-elect.
The suspects

In the said advert, the suspects posited that 500 persons from each of the 20 local government councils in the state, all totalling 10, 000, would benefit from the intended program, of which interested persons were required to obtain forms for #3, 000.

But, like the saying that man proposes and God disposes, having perfected their scaming machinery, the ugly news filtered to Abioidun who reacted through his media aide, Remi Hassan, prompting Hassan to issue a press statement, dissociating his principal from the purported scam and warned members of the public to beware of the fraudulent syndicate.

Irked by the development, according to DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) "the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama, directed the officer in-charge of Anti kidnapping/cultist Section to go after the syndicate with the view of nipping the fraudulent intention in the bud and save unsuspecting individuals from running into the trap of being fleeced of their hard earned money".

He said" "The team embarked on tactical investigations of the suspects and, within 24 hours, their efforts yielded positive results and eventual arrests of the principal actors in the fraudulent act", noting that several incriminating documents like letters written to various State agencies and uniform with the inscription “Keep Ogun State Clean” were found in their possession.

"Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation of the case, even as he directed that all members of the syndicate be fished out for and brought to justice", the PPRO stated, adding that the CP had warned members of the public to always make enquiries before parting with their money in order not be swindled under any guise.
