The All Progressives Congress lawmaker representing Etsako Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Pastor, Johnson Oghuma, has called for support to enable Government tackle the challenges of unemployment in the country.
The lawmaker made the call during the distribution of empowerment items worth millions of Naira, to members of his constituent.
Oghuma, who bemoaned the challenges of unemployment, said support such as his, would help reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.
Some members of his constituency went home with motorcycles, sewing machines, wielding machine and other empowerment tools.
"My purpose in life as well as in politics, is to provide opportunities for my people; giving hope to the hopeless," he stated.
Oghuma said some beneficiaries of the empowerment items have been trained and would be supported with cash grant to kick start their trade.
He listed some aspect of trade some beneficiaries have received training to include, Fishery, Tailoring, Welding, Solar Power Repairs and Installation, Cosmetology, CCTV installation and Repairs, as well as Aluminium Fabrication
According to him, "Those that have been trained on fishery will get the empowerment item as well as 500 fingerlings and a token to start up. The same will go for others that we have trained.
"Similarly, about 200 market women will get N10, 000 each to boost their businesses, while 160 farmers will get sprayers and other items to improve their yields."
While urging the beneficiaries to make good use of the items, Oghuma stressed that he would continue to do his best to improve on the economy life of the people.
Hon. Oghuma announced that he secured federal jobs for 3 youths in his two years of legislative business at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
Earlier in his address, the Local Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alh. Abubakar Akokhia, commended the lawmaker for achieving so much within little time in office.
He said the beauty of the empowerment items aside the training received by some of the beneficiaries, is the fact that they were evenly distributed across all tie wards that made up the federal constituency.
A beneficiary of the empowerment programme, Mrs Chinaka Mercy thanked the lawmaker for his magnanimity and support for the people. She promised to use her tools judiciously.
