The Okpella traditional council on Saturday at the Fidau prayer ceremony in honour of the late Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, late Alhaji Dr. A.Y.E Dirisu, called for the support of Gov Obaseki administration for improved development of the region in Edo north senatorial distinct.
The Council urged the governor to reflects on the developmental contribution of the late H.R.M, Andrew Yesufu Dirisu, OON his legacies, wishes and desires with a view to enhancing its overall development.
The Council demanded that the various Okpella communities should be made assessable irrespective of seasons henforth while pledging its loyalty.
"We pledged our continued loyalty and co-operation with government at all levels. We are hopeful that government will do the needful in supporting our plans for a seamless process that would culminate in the choice of his successor."
In his lecture entitled "Preaching on Death and Punishment of the Grave, Alhaji Abdulfatah Enabuleleh, Imam of Benin said every soul must experience death and it is duty of everyone to prepare for the inevitable.
On his part, His Royal Highness, Igiegba of Ekperi land said that every man should live with the consciousness of death. All Muslims should always live to the fact that they will account for the lives theirs are ling. He described the deceased as a peace loving man. That he left them in peace and the brothers should live in peace . He said any communities that has no leader, the devil will be their leaders. He urged the community dweller to immediately begin the search of a worthy learner who will the mantle of leadership from wher the late Alhaji Andrew Yesufu Dirisu stopped.
Responding, Gov. Obaseki described the monarch has a real royal father of the old order, a man of peace and truth who struggled day and night to managed the kingdom adding that Edo people have more reasons to celebrate his life. He noted that Okpella is a special town in Edo housing the largest investment in the state. A dream state.
The Governor said: "We will not forget Okpella, the economy and overall development of her people.
"Our royal father represented the old order. He believed in the truth, fairness and justice. A man that stood for the liberation of his people and kingdom. We are here to celebrate his life and what he stood for,” he said.
Obaseki promised to reconstruct the road road leading to the palace of the late monarch and completion of Okpella water project in memory of the monarch.
"In memory of our late father, I will construct this road with street lights. The road will be renamed after our late royal father.”
Highlight of the event is the recitation of quranic verses and presentation of awards.
Late Alhaji Dr. Dirisu died on February 19, 2019, serving 48 years as Okuokpellagbe of Okpella.
