No fewer than 871 persons have contacted lassa fever disease in Etsako West Local government, Edo State between January to March, 2019.
According to Etsako West Local government disease control Officer, Hajia Nefisat Ikerodah, of this figure 12 persons have feared dead, a large number have been treated and discharged while others are at the Irrua Specialist Hospital for medial treatment.
She expressed worries over high cost of medical treatment for affected patients. She said a total contact existence as of today is 616 and appealed to the federal government to declare lassa fever treatment free across the country. Adding that members of the public should keep their surroundings clean and go for medical check up all the time.
Since the outbreak this year, Jattu, Afashio and Ikabigbo all in Uzairue have the highest number of victims.
