The Federal government on Saturday reiterated its commitment to addressing the issue of technological development at all levels of education as a panacea to the myriad of challenges confronting the nation in the development of indigenous technology.
Minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu made this known at the 25th Convocation of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi. According to the Minister, government will overhaul the National Skills Vocational Qualification Framework and the invigoration of the Flexible Skill Development in the curriculum of Polytechnics.

Mallam Adamu Adamu said: " It is against this background that teaching of Entrepreneurship Education is made compulsory for all students as a way of developing graduates with business consciousness, self-reliance and entrepreneurial skills." Urging Nigerian Polytechnics to engage in teaching, learning and research in such news areas that will turn around the fortune of the nation.
The Minister said that, if the desired change Nigerians craved for must be achieved, vices such as cultism, exchange of money for Mark's, compromise of admission process and insubordination must seized.
He said that the National Board for Technical Education, the supervisory agency for Polytechnics in the country has keyed into the policies of government to advance Standard and Quality Skills development in the sector.
He tasked the graduands to put the skills they have acquired to the service of the nation, urging them to be good ambassadors of the Polytechnic.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Sanusi Jimah announced that four Hundred and Eighty-six (486) graduating students of the Polytechnic made distinction, equivalent of first class, during the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions
Dr Sanusi Jimah, said the students would be awarded their certificates during the institution’s 25th convocation in Auchi today.
Jimah said while 241 graduating students during the 2016/2017 session had distinction, 245 students who completed their programme during the 2017/2018 session similarly bagged distinction.
He said that 382 of the distinctions were achieved in the Higher National Diploma programmes.
He said the total of 486 students who had distinction would be among the 28,000 graduating students to be awarded their certificate today.
On the issue of discipline in the Polytechnic, the Rector said: "32 lecturers found wanting were sanctioned by the federal ministry of education in the form of dismissal, demotion, termination of appointment and warning.
“Management is ready to tackle and completely wipe out corruption from the system.
“It may also interest you that four female students alleged to have made sexual advances to lecturers for marks were expelled when they refused to appear before the students’ disciplinary committee.” he furthered.
On his part, the acting governor, Edo State, Comrade Phillips Shuaibu commended the Polytechnic management for the physical development of the school as this will facilitate the transformation of the Polytechnic to a University of technollogy.
He urged the graduands to take advantage of self employment as the desired white collar jobs are no longer available adding that on the part of the Edo State government, the State has taken up the challenge by establishing the Edojobs portal to recruit and train umemployed youths in necessary entrepreneurial skills.
Highlights of the ocassion was the award of Diplomas, certificates, prizes on the graduands, conferment of honourary fellowship of the Polytechnic on Rt. Reverend Matthew Okpebholo, Executive Chairman, Ray Royal Construction Company and the commissioninig of some completed projects by the Honourable Minister of Education amongst which is the School of Applied Science Complex in Area II of the Polytechnic.
